Singoporian flag to protest sand exports

Dirty sand exports to Singapore temporarily stop

We all know that there are many back handlers going on in Cambodia but this is one for the hall of fame. If you didn’t know Cambodia has been exporting sand to Singapore since 2007 but the exact amount has been unclear until now. UN and Singaporean data suggests that $752 million has been delivered whereas Cambodia has declared only $5 million of this. That is some difference, meaning over 60 million metric tons of sand has simply vanished. The exports have now stopped in Cambodia, we assume until the heat is off and the process will then no doubt continue – business is business.
