Sihanoukville province is located at the south-west of Cambodia. It was named in honor of the king Norodom Sihanouk, who coordinated the establishment and development of the city and municipality alongside the construction of the only deep-water port in Cambodia to strengthen the country’s international trade.
There are a number of beaches in the surrounding coastlines of Sihanoukville. Ochheuntal, Serendipity, Otres and Sokha Beach are some of the most frequented spots by travellers and locals. However Sihanoukville is the gate to Cambodia’s southern islands, where the true Khmer beach paradises are located.
The city is the main beach resort town in Cambodia. Following the country’s economic growth, Sihanoukville has seen an expansion of the construction industry and tourism sector over the past few years.
The province comprises 22 islands. Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem have undergone years of development with no real planning. Most of the islands have been privately developed and some of them offer incredible places for diving and snorkelling.
