Sapa is the capital of Sa Pa District in Lao Cai province. It borders with China at 1500 meters above sea level, in the remote northwest mountains of Vietnam. It is an exceptionally picturesque town featuring a beautiful rugged scenery and abundant cultural diversity.
The region is home to many hill tribes, impressive rice terraces and rich vegetation. Previous inhabitants left nothing but hundreds of petroglyphs across the valley, nowadays several ethnic minority groups including Giay, Dao, Tay and Hmong live in the area.
Sapa offers some of the best locations for trekking enthusiasts and outdoor lovers. It is a colourful and charming oasis in the middle of mountains and rice paddies.
