The Mekong Delta or Đồng bằng Sông Cửu Long (Nine Dragon River Delta in Vietnamese) is a region in southwest Vietnam where the Mekong River empties into the sea. The area is biologically rich and it is also Vietnam’s most important fishing region. Boats, markets and houses float upon endless waterways among rice paddies and crops that produce more than a third of country’s annual food (more than Korea and Japan together)
The Mekong Delta is located to the west of Ho Chi Minh City featuring a wide variety of landscapes. Life here revolves around the mighty Mekong and everything it has to offer, many villages are only accessible by rivers and the main economic activities are subject the seasonal nature of the river flow.
